LA - Police have new Breath Alcohol Testing bus

With enough space for nine or more officers, the BAT bus includes two breath-testing stations capable of 12 breath tests per hour, interior and exterior video cameras, computer stations to research suspects' arrest records, and areas to collect and store blood samples.

"The BAT bus will allow law enforcement throughout this region to more effectively identify impaired drivers and administer quick testing," Police Chief Jim Craft said in a news release. "I am confident that the roads and highways of Acadiana are about to become much safer."

Mouton said his department will share the BAT bus with other law enforcement agencies in this area.

Lt. Col. John LeBlanc, executive director of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, said in the release that Lafayette Police Department is one of four Louisiana law enforcement agencies to get grants to buy a BAT bus.
