MN - Minnesotans frustrated, angry over state government shutdown
Tara and Jose Garcia wanted to spend the holiday weekend camping with their four children.
But a Minnesota government shutdown prevented them from pitching a tent at a state park. So they checked out county campgrounds, only to find those parks overflowing with people.
"It's bulls--t," said Tara Garcia of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. "I am just feeling, 'Are you kidding? C'mon!'"
So the Garcias parked their minivan at Ft. Snelling, a state historical site nestled on the edge of the Mississippi River, just outside Minneapolis. That too was closed. They wandered the desolate paths anyway, with nerf guns in hand and a gaggle of kids, all under age 8.
After Democratic Governor Mark Dayton and Republican legislative leaders failed to reach agreement on a $5 billion budget deficit Thursday, state offices, parks, highway rest areas and a state zoo were shuttered. In addition, 22,000 government workers were hit with layoff notices.

This is a fluff piece with very little reporting on the actual story. I believe that a truely journalistic effort would find the Republicans were intransigent and sympathetic only to the interests of the wealthiest 5%. The Democrats were willing to entertain a plan for shared sacrifice.

Did the Governor and State legislators stop recieving pay checks? I would guess "No". They always punish the people who pay their salaires. Bad things should befall every one of them who got your state into this situation.

Amazingly the morons in Government think They "own" the parks.
Shutting them down and restricting the true and only "real owners" of the property to enjoy them is just a flimsy attempt to rob you of your rights to enjoy whats yours and condition you to beg to pay more taxes to the morons that wasted what you've already paid.
Theres no logical reason why Americans can't still enjoy the national and state parks, they belong to us, not the demons in some ridiculous office

I agree, find an easy access point and enjoy your parks! There are trails that lead out (in my area) that are outside the gates, use em!
At least we know, with no more money in the state governments, there won't be cameras installed in the middle of our state parks.

When the state parks are closed, go right in!! There are no rangers there anymore .... just take your property back!! Do not make a mess!! pack your garbage out and do not rely on state governments!! If 22000 people got laid off, I doubt they are patrolling the state parks, and if they are tell them you will not leave!!!
