RI - Become a farmer for $40, just do the weeding
The town's newly-fledged corporation of college-age farmers is
inviting you to dig your fingers into the good earth and grow crops of
your own.
"Revive the Roots," a nonprofit enterprise that has leased 19 acres of town-owned land on Old Forge Road off Farnum Pike, announced this week that it has set aside plots for individual "community gardens" it will rent for anywhere from $40 to $200 a season, depending on their size.
The six young corporate directors, who are also growing crops that they'll sell on their own, will do your tilling, irrigate your garden, and even sell you seedlings that meet their criteria for organic farming.
Your only obligation will be to visit your mini-farm at least once a week to keep it weeded.
