Senators, courts tell VA to reduce veteran suicides
In at least 13 cases, Murray said, veterans committed suicide or died from drug overdoses while waiting to receive help from the VA.
Two veterans -- one from the Iraq war, one from the Afghanistan war -- appeared before the committee, testifying about their long waits before receiving any services from the VA.
One of them, Steven Bohn, 24, of Peabody, Mass., served in Afghanistan until he was injured in November 2008. He was hurt when a suicide bomber with 2,000 pounds of explosives drove a dump truck into a building, detonating it. Bohn said he was in the hospital for six months with severe internal and spinal injuries.
His transition from military service to the VA has been less than smooth, he told senators.
"I still have two herniated discs, which are pinching nerves in my neck and causing great pain, but I am uncertain what additional treatment might still be possible," Bohn said. "At this point, many months after becoming a veteran, I have yet to be assigned a VA primary care doctor."
Murray said that service members and veterans alike "continue to take their own lives at an alarming rate." She noted that in April, the VA's suicide hot line fielded more than 14,000 calls, or more than 450 a day, the most ever for a single month.

In WWII, the USA had over 400,000 killed in action. WWII soldiers considered themselves "already dead" when they went overseas. Lower expectations are key to satisfaction. If you expect to die, but survive, you are satisfied with your lot in life. If you expect to go to Iraq or Afghanistan and "protect our freedom" or "spread democracy" then you will want tocommit suicide afterward.

These are the good decent people who know they arecommitting war crimes for corporate interests and they can't take it. It's a bitter pill to swallow knowing you are the bad guy. The troops need to realize the government elite and their banksters friends that start these illegal occupations don't give a hang about them.

Spirittoo hits the nail on the head. And worse is the chronic intense physical pain and alienating disfigurement many vets are now suffering due to the advances in emergency trauma care. And all for someone else's greed. Even the most ignorant and simple in the military deserve the truth as to why they are fighting a given conflict. It means the world. Something that hillary and obama and clinton and bush will never understand.

did you see obama's recent election ploy? he's 'bringing home troops' starting in july ---- but wait ----- why are the navy and national guard troops being deployed over there? Bring home some, send more......
I feel so bad for our soldiers, you have to respect their bravery, loyalty and perseverance
but on the flip side you want to grab/shake and yell "WHAT ARE YOU DOING???"
I hope that one day, no recruits sign up and a draft is enacted. I believe this will be the breaking point for us, as Americans, to stand up. (finally...)

At this latest AIPAC convention, an AIPAC representative allegedly told cogressmenthat the congress critter video taped making the loudest and most numerous applauses and cheers would receive the largest campaign contribution afterward. And this is why our soldiers and foreign innocent people are being murdered.
