MT - Bitterroot Valley ammunition makers see ever-growing demand
Business is so good that Newsom is planning to open a new factory focused mainly on making ammunition for law enforcement and other government entities.
"I'm taking applications right now," he said. "We'll start with 15 right off the bat to get it going."
In time, Newsom expects the new plant will match the 50 employees he already has working for him.
Across town, the 42 employees at The Hunting Shack are staying equally busy keeping up with orders from across the country.
"The market has gone crazy," said Nick Shiele, the company's production manager. "Everyone seems to be finding money to buy ammo and guns."
While The Hunting Shack doesn't have any immediate plans to expand its operations, Shiele said the business continues to take steps to be more productive and efficient.
Both men believe the market for ammunition is being driven by uncertainty in political and economic realms.
