MS - Taser training called dangerous
In a recent letter to
county officials across the state, Richard Corkern, president of the
Mississippi Public Entity Workers' Compensation Services Inc., said the
MPE Workers Compensation Trust had received several workers'
compensation claims from county employees for injuries received from
being shot with a Taser gun during training.
In some instances, some injuries "have been quite serious," he said in the Feb. 3 letter to sheriffs and county supervisors. Taser use during training is not required by law, he said.
"Such an activity is very dangerous and can result in serious injury that exposes you and perhaps your employees who conduct such training to potentially significant liability," Corkern said in the Feb. 3 letter to sheriffs and county supervisors.
