WY - Receives Failing Grade in Prison Regulations
According to a study released late last year from women’s rights
organization The Rebecca Project, there are now more women behind bars
now than at any other point in U.S. history.
However, The Rebecca Project says Wyoming, and 20 other states, are failing to provide adequate care for female inmates.
The study says in the areas of state and federal policies regarding prenatal care, shackling and family based treatment as an alternative to incarceration, Wyoming is among 20 other states that received a D or an F grade from the Rebecca Project.
Thirty-eight states received failing grades in regards to adequate prenatal care for female inmates, while 36 states received failing grades for their policies on shackling pregnant women during transportation, labor, delivery and recovery.
