MT - Park County officials dismiss DUI convictions in cases involving MHP trooper who resigned

Park County officials have dismissed convictions and pending charges in cases involving a Montana Highway Patrol sergeant who resigned last month after an investigation found he had lied about his background and training.

County Attorney Brett Linneweber told the Billings Gazette he has dismissed fewer than 20 convictions or pending cases in which Steve Wisniewski was the primary investigator. He told the Associated Press on Thursday the cases primarily involved drunken driving.

The patrol said Wisniewski had been overstating his credentials. Linneweber says he dismissed cases that went to trial or were headed to trial in which defense attorneys had been given Wisniewski's resume as an expert witness.
