AZ - No rural homeowner should have to question their fire coverage
On Nov. 4, a fire destroyed the home of one of our neighbors.
The house was located in Paulden but not inside the fire district. The
Chino Valley Fire District serves Paulden but has limitations in regard
to the area protected.
Was this tragedy avoidable? The cause of the blaze has been determined and the cause of the fire may have been avoided. That is a simple answer; this situation is much more complex and compelling. From an early age we are all taught that if you have an emergency, call 911. Simple as that, someone is coming to save the day or at least give it a shot.
On this day, the call went out but something got in the way. It was a wall, a boundary, a reason the emergency responders could not help. That reason, by law, was the fire engine and the firefighters could not engage the fire because it was not "paid for".
