LA - Upside down flag ignites anger
In front of a downtown home, a flag flies at half- staff, as a protest against the Obama administration. On a busy east-Houma street, a flag flies upside down as a symbol of distress caused by the BP oil spill. Use of the American flag to signal political and social messages is becoming more visible. And some members of veterans' organizations and others who consider themselves defenders of Old Glory's honor are unhappy about it. "It is not up to the individual flag owner to do what they want with that flag," said C.J. Christ, Houma Regional Military Museum Foundation president and a Korean War veteran. "They can do it with some other piece of cloth but not that one."
