MN - Special court will focus on traumatized veterans
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — On a cold night in 2004, Hector Matascastillo had just finished clearing a house — something he’d done many times as an Army Ranger overseas — and walked out the door, a pistol in each hand.
A shadowy figure was outside, waiting. Matascastillo thought it was the enemy. Then, he noticed his young son still inside the house, peering at him through a window.
He felt a searing pain in his head and realized he wasn’t in the Middle East. He was at his Lakeville home in the middle of a flashback, and the figure he was pointing his gun at was actually a police officer.
‘‘I was in a completely dissociative state,’’ said Matascastillo, 37, who was ultimately convicted of two charges, including terroristic threats.read full article here
