ME - Man cites explosives, jet diverts to Maine

The former Air Force member who was detained Tuesday on a trans-Atlantic flight after allegedly claiming he had explosives in his luggage and a fake passport lives a "squeaky clean"life and has never been in trouble before, his father told The Associated Press.

Richard Stansberry said government officials told him the man who was detained after the Paris-to-Atlanta flight was diverted to Maine is his son, 26-year-old Derek Stansberry of Riverview, Fla.

The father said government officials questioned him, but he was as perplexed as they were.

"My son's profession in the military required he live a squeaky clean life," Richard Stansberry said.

Houston, 24, said that when Tuesday's flight landed, FBI agents boarded and helped remove the suspect, who was wearing handcuffs.

"He looked extremely calm, like a blank face. No emotion," Houston said of the man who was removed.

My Thoughts:

Does anyone else find this account to be mighty coincidental with the xmas underwear bomber?  Here is an account of his "zombie like" detachment of the situation.  No resistance, No emotion, No Anxiety....

Abdulmutallab was on fire, yet he stayed in his seat, motionless, not screaming or attempting to put out the flames. This was no accident, Schuringa thought, he'd tell media later. This man was trying to blow up the airplane.

Schuringa pulled Abdulmutallab's pants to his ankles, looking for more bombs, then yanked the badly burned Nigerian out of his seat and shoved him to the aisle floor. One male passenger tried to attack the prone would-be terrorist, but another man restrained him.

Three minutes after the loud pop, the flames were doused and Abdulmutallab was dragged to business class by Schuringa, the business-class passenger and a male flight attendant. The Nigerian didn't speak or resist.

"He looked like a zombie," said Shama Chopra. "His eyes were wide." Chopra, sitting in Row 4, recognized the young man limping toward the front of the plane with blue jeans around his ankles as the traveler who looked so nervous in Amsterdam.
