Told Family About Homeschooling - Yikes
The question finally came up "So *** is starting kindergarten next year huh?"
I've been dreading it because my mom has worked in the public school system for
about 15 years. Her stories are part of my fear of placing my child in such a precarious
environment.
My response was rather weak and I tripped over my words, but I did say it and not back
away from it.
"Well we've been considering another type of schooling aimed closer at the individual
and their desired areas of interest. It's a co-op school that just adds to the additional
schooling done at home that gives her an opportunity to make friends, learn things
that public school doesn't offer as part of an elementary curriculum such as Guitar, Gymnastics,
Spanish, Marine Biology, West Coast Nature and so much more."
Silence while everyone absorbs this information. Hmmm, interesting - I can hear the wheels
turning... How can they afford this, what about what is normal, what if she misses out on something,
How, When, Why, How weird of them.....
Then my ever loving uncle exclaims "Like a college for kids? That is wonderful!"
My mother chose to keep the conversation for another time, but I could see her disgust. Lol
I'm proud, yet anxious. Could have said more..... ugh.
