CO - Census Workers go to college hangouts to collect
College students: The Census Bureau doesn't want you to play hide-and-seek.
The population of Boulder recently grew (well, at least on paper) from 94,171 to 99,466 after the city successfully challenged the 2000 census count, arguing that people living in "group quarters," such as dorms and Greek houses, were left out of the count.
City officials say that, as a result, Boulder's population has been low-balled for nine years, which means the city has missed out on its fair share of federal funding.
This time around, there are large-scale efforts to count University of Colorado students.
The census counters will collect data in CU-Boulder's dorms and a popular eating spot called Piazanos beginning April 1, said CU-Boulder spokesman Bronson Hilliard.
