OR - Molalla residents complain of crumbling street
About 20 residents from Third Street in Molalla showed up at last week’s city council to request repairs on a street they described as crumbling and flood-prone.
“We are pleading with the council members to fix our street properly,” said Third Street resident Jennifer Smith, who presented a petition to the council signed by about 25 neighbors. “I live in Sunrise Acres and we jokingly refer to it as Swamprise Acres.”
She said continual drainage problems leave “lakes” on the road. In addition, the uneven asphalt and numerous potholes have led to many bike and scooter wrecks for the neighborhood children.
“When these kids crash on this, they’re scarred for life. I’m talking gauged, gashed,” said Michael Hawkinson, a Third Street resident. “Big Meadows is pretty nice. We’re building all this new, new, new stuff, but what about the old stuff? We’re getting neglected.”
While they would like to see the whole road repaired soon, at least fixing the drainage problem would help, Third Street resident Tracy Rush said.
“It truly does flood out there from curb to curb,” said Chris Watson, another Third Street resident.
