Public Schools or Home Schooling - Part II

2 weeks ago I wrote about the possibility of home schooling our child next year.

Realistically, I know I'm not a teacher.  I know my patience wears thin and I know that I run 3 home businesses from our home office which constricts my time greatly.  I always make time for "work time" with our child, but it is not in a structured environment, more spur of the moment without long range goals attached.

Could I become more organized and sketch out a lesson plan and a long range goal?  Sure, if needed, I would do anything for our child to ensure their education and security in this world.

I had a big idea the other night.  What about a co-op school for Kindergarten to 3rd grade?  Maybe if I start small, just K-2  depending on interest......

I'm researching it, but only ONE co-op school operates in my county (huge county) and it's too far away to be reasonable.  I've put myself out there and emailed them, wondering why they haven't expanded.

To offer something like this to our child is something I would be so proud of.  To take an active stance against the public school system, follow through with it and provide our child with a superior safe school experience.

I'm so excited to take my first steps!  Wish me luck

UPDATE - After posting an ad on Craigslist.org asking for information from other parents who homeschool - I was overwhelmed with ideas, schools and different approaches to traditional broke public schools. In fact, come to find out - Washington State has some of the more lenient laws regarding home schooling. It's a much bigger thing here than I originally anticipated.
I've also bought the whole John Holt collection and am working on reading them.
