IL - Coroners, Sheriffs and Treasurers get pay cuts
SPRINGFIELD - Add some county officials to the list of people whose salaries are feeling the effects of the state budget crisis.
Officials such as coroners, treasurers and sheriffs for counties across the state are seeing their salaries cut this year.
Specifically, the state generally pays each of the officials a $6,500 stipend to compensate them for various duties such as processing additional paperwork for the state.
This year, though, they'll see about a $2,300 pay cut from that stipend, which is paid out in addition to their regular county salaries.
That caught the attention of Macon County Treasurer Steve Grimm, who argues the state legally has to pay the full amount.
"We don't get that stipend for doing nothing," he said.
